10 Tips To Create A Kitchen With Good Feng Shui Energy

If you are remodeling or refurbishing the home, pay special attention to the energy in the kitchen. According to Feng Shui design theory, the kitchen is a place with a lot of fire energy—which means you need to configure and arrange it carefully. Positioning appliances and furnishings without thought to Feng Shui could create a space that is stressful, inefficient, and less than ideal.

Here are ten tips to create a kitchen with good Feng Shui energy.

1. Go with White

Feng Shui experts report that white is the best color when designing or refurbishing a kitchen. White symbolizes cleanliness, which is perfect for creating good energy in your home. You can complement the white color scheme with other shades to enhance its energy, like brown for stability, green for growth, and metallics for joy.

2. Consider the View

The stove is a critical component of a kitchen and, as such, needs to have a commanding position in the room. Make sure that it is placed where you can see the door or entry to the kitchen when cooking, but not in direct line with the door to maintain good energy.

3. Work in a Triangle

Feng Shui recommends a working triangle layout in the kitchen. That is, three distinct and dedicated areas that work to balance one another. There should be designated cooking, laundry, and pantry areas—and the refrigerator is positioned in the pantry space.  Where you cook food should be in line with where you wash and clean up, ideally.

4. Skip the Mirrors

Mirrors reflect whatever energy is in a space, so they increase fire energy in the kitchen, causing the room to feel off. Skip mirrored tile, too, if you want to foster good qi or energy.

5. Allow for Air

Another element to consider when refurbishing a kitchen with Feng Shui in mind is circulation. For good energy, there must be ample space and ventilation to rid the room of foul odors and provide fresh air, as needed. Discuss air circulation and ventilation options with your contractor.

6. Work with Windows

Be careful when configuring your kitchen windows and what will be placed there. If possible, water belongs in front of the window, like a sink underneath, but don't block or position the sink so you lose sight of the kitchen entrance.

7. Give Up the Microwave

Microwave ovens should never be installed over the stove if you want to maintain good energy in the kitchen. Plus, since it involves radiation conduction, many Feng Shui experts recommend giving up the microwave altogether.

8. Watch your Knives

There are mixed opinions regarding whether a knife block or cutting board should be implemented and visible in the design of a kitchen to adhere to Feng Shui. First, sharp edges that have the potential to injure can make the space uncomfortable, bringing bad luck and broken energy. However, others believe that, if they are organized, orderly, and clean, a knife block is fine.

9. Remove the Door

Allow for the easy flow of air and energy through the space. Do not block doors and create an easy path throughout the kitchen for the best flow of good qi.

10. Provide a Personal Touch

Finally, for optimal good energy in your home, make sure to put your own personal touch, accents, and belongings around the space. If you have your kitchen professionally remodeled, make sure to add your own personal objects and décor to strengthen the connection and good qi.
